A story about a stormy morning

Here in Alabama we are used to storms. It's just a part of the way of life here. But how to entertain little ones during a stormy day...

First of all.. you need storms. Check. I think I caught Jerry there in a blink. ;o)

Then you need at least one, if not more crazy kids.Double check. Scary...

Then you would need a rolodex of ideas in your mind. I searched my brain files for things I learned about over at MckMama's blog.

Check.

Here is what the kids did.

That's rice and dried pasta. They enjoyed racing their cars through it, burying their toy puppies in it and watching it fall through a funnel.

The wind and rain picked up and the lightening and thunder got louder.

But that didn't stop the playing..
It did stop the T.V coverage though.. stupid satellite.

Oh, and one other thing it didn't stop..

Yeah, that boy loves his blankets.. all 1.5 billion of them. Yes, that is a pink blanket.. his sister's. She doesn't mind. I'm sure she hasn't even realized it hasn't been on her bed in a week or two.

So yeah.. that's what a stormy morning is like around here. After this line is through we are supposed to get some more later tonight and some tomorrow with a good chance of SNOW! To think tornadoes today.. snow tomorrow. Got to love the south.

Lab test one.. down.

It was... moderately difficult. I'm pretty sure I did well on the bone features and bones. Worried about the slides and one part of the skin. We'll see come Tuesday.

New Recipes. New Found Taste.

Since Kent got his pump we've been trying out different recipes and so far they have all been yummy. I've done a 15 minute BBQ sandwich. Kent cooked a chicken tacos last night and then tonight we had BBQ chicken with cheddar cheese and veggies in a foil packet. It was delicious. I've found out that onions aren't a bad thing. In fact, green onions are really good. Red bell peppers are good as well. Before doing this I would have never eaten a bell pepper. Just didn't appeal to me. But since I know now that whatever is on my plate is all I am getting, then I tend to want to eat whatever I can. And have found that it really does taste good. Before I liked the taste of onion, just not the texture.. but after giving a try again.. it's not so bad. I'm hoping to find some more good recipes to use and to put into our rotation.

In other news, Nathan got his 4th tooth this past weekend. I forgot to mention it. We currently call him the redneck baby or the snaggle tooth baby because he has this one big tooth on top and nothing else. So cute.

Kent cleaned out our coat closet which has also doubled as Kent's junk closet. I asked him to clean it out a few days ago and while looking it over it dawned on me.. "A really small play room." I know that sounds crazy, but with 3 kids and all their toys it just seems the smaller the child the bigger the toys it just made sense to use the space "differently" for now. Nathan loved it. I put all his bigger toys in there and he crawled right in and was playing with all his toys. When Zoey woke up from her nap she couldn't resist it either. It's amazing how such a small space can make kids love it all the more.

"Y'all come on in!"
"It's fun in here!"

Another B

I got an 88 on my second A&P test. Was really hoping for an A, but at least it was in the high B range so it will do. I have my big lab test Thursday. I feel good on some parts and scared to death on others. I'm hoping all this cramming sticks and I am able to pull another high B or an A out of this lab test.

Nate the Great

Doesn't he just look handsome?

I have no life..

Proof that I have no life.. or at least not an exciting life...

I cleaned out my closet this weekend. Got rid of junk we didn't need, reorganized things and moved Nathan's clothes out and into his closet. And now my closet looks huge. Every time I go in there I get excited at the neatness of it. Sad, no?
-----------------------------------------------------
Not much going on here. I've been spring cleaning (yes, I know it's the middle of winter). I'm finally done with it and now I just need to get all my consignment stuff together and tagged and priced and all that fun (not) stuff.
-----------------------------------------------------
Since Kent's been on his insulin pump we have really been having to watch what he eats and what I buy. So I went to the grocery store today to buy our bi-weekly loot of food and it usually takes me about 45 minutes to an hour to buy everything and get back home. Today, with having to read everything, it took me TWO HOURS. But I got everything and the supper I cooked tonight was good. I hope the rest of meals turn out well. I'm doing the "diet" or rather life style change with Kent. Hoping to lose my last 5 pounds.
----------------------------------------------------
Well, I must go. I'm sure my floors are dry so I can go put back all the chairs and rugs and things.

See? No life.

Totally forgot to mention it..

I mailed off my nursing application for the school I'm currently going to. So now it's just a waiting game to see if I get in. Which I won't know until closer to the end of summer, I believe. If I do, I am doing the delayed nursing program since there is no way I think I could do the full load and be a mommy to three and a wife to one. So that would put me graduating December 2011. Prayers for me to get in would be much appreciated!

A Jon Kent-ism

Jon Kent likes to help me put the clothes into the washing machine. Sometimes he will comment about what he is putting in there. Here is how it went today.

Jon Kent: My undy wear. Zoey's undy wear.
Me: Uh huh.. yep.
Jon Kent: Socks, more undy wear.
Me: Yep.
Jon Kent: Your boobie holders...
Me: ::laughing::

I'm too big for naps..

This is what happens when you decide you are too big for naps.

Just part of the job

Kent is on his way home from the ER.

Yes, the ER.

From what I gathered when he casually mentioned to me that he was heading to the ER.. he went to break up a fight and somehow injured his finger. He thought it was sprained but his uppers or whoever thought he needed to get it checked out. So to the ER he went. I just got through talking to him and he said it was a soft tissue bruise. So yay for it not being broken. But boooo for stupid inmates fighting.

What's new in O'ville?

I took my A&P test tonight. I should have done well. My teacher, bless his heart, let us use our notes. Granted I honestly don't think you learn that way, but since we didn't know he was going to let us do it, we all should have studied.. but nonetheless, I was pleased that he did. He told us to do all we could on our own, then to write our name on a piece of paper and the starting time of when we started using our notes and then add 45 minutes to that time and get our stopping time and to turn it in to him. Once we reached that time we had to put our notes away.

I used every last second of that 45 minutes. You know.. just to be sure.

I think even without my notes I probably would have gotten a B. So hopefully with my notes I got an A. I figured it up and so far, not counting this test, I have a 96(give or take a point) in the class.

I don't know if anyone knows this or not (except family and close friends who may read my blog) Kent is a diabetic. Has been since he was 7 years old. So that makes him a type 1 diabetic. Which means his pancreas doesn't produce any insulin. Anyway, over the last year we have had a time keeping his levels under control. They would drop and he would become incoherent. He would act like he was drunk. It took a toll on me for numerous reasons and him as well. He asked his doctor about getting a pump. And today (after much waiting) he is all "hooked" up. This way he is getting a continuous flow of insulin, just like a "normal" person would. He has to calculate how many carbs is in his meal and then he just punches that in and it gives him his insulin. If we are out eating he can punch in the place we are at, what he got and it will automatically count up the carbs for him. It's pretty neat. We're hoping this helps with his unstable levels and since he has to really watch what he is eating and I have to really watch what I am buying we can really get healthy again.. like I feel like we were before our lives got hectic with kids.

I need to research some new recipes and different companies that cater to sugar free, carb free, etc products.

Later!

Nathan Walking

These were taken an hour or two ago. He has really gotten good at walking and he is starting to prefer to at least trying to walking versus crawling unless he wants to get to something quickly..

What does daddy do at work?

Up until recently I honestly think Jon Kent and Zoey really thought Kent went to work to make money. Like literally to make money. But over the last few weeks/months Jon Kent has picked up that Kent is like a policeman. He keeps all the bad guys in one place. So Kent thought it would be neat to show them his bag of stuff that he uses on the DCT (Disturbance Control Team) team. So he pulled the bag out and put it all on. They were amazed to say the least.

Just emptying my head

We reviewed over our second biology test tonight in A&P. It was a really good review and I knew a lot of the answers. Which made me feel good. I also started studying for my lab tonight after we got through with our review and I amazingly knew a lot of the bones. I was pretty excited at that realization. Once I get better at the bone features, I will really be feeling good.

I have a psychology test tomorrow night. It's on the prenatal development. I know most of it since I've experienced 3 times already. The only "hard" part is some the terminology but I think I have a pretty good handle on that.

I'm looking at another school to possibly take my RN courses at. Only because they offer night and weekend classes and do all their clinicals at the hospital that I delivered all the kids at, which I love. They also offer the RN program more than once a year, so if I don't get in the first time I can reapply the next semester. I'm still thinking about it, so we'll see.

Kent told me this evening not to be surprised if he doesn't get that job. Because he said since there isn't a lot of "moving money" in the budget currently because of the economy that the prison may not want to move anybody. And when the job posted they said it did include cost of moving. So what may happen is they will "announce" that they no longer need to fill the position at this time and then wait a month and repost it without the cost of moving. Which is low and sneaky, but they can do it.. they are the government and all. So, for now, I've just closed that chapter and consider it closed unless we do indeed get notice that he got the job. So on to decorating and getting this house less cramped! Not to mention weeding out toys and clothes so I can get my spring/summer consignment done.

Speaking of consignment, it's nearing that time again. I have to have all my stuff tagged by the 12th of March, I believe. I'm hoping to do well so I can squirrel away the money for later adventures.

Well, I must go. Need to go look over my Psy test once more before heading to bed.

The government.. ugh.

The government is slow. I do mean.. s-l-o-w. As you all know Kent put in for a job that could possibly move us. The deadline to put in for the job was December 31st. We thought, surely, by February 1st we would know something.. anything. Nope. Still waiting. And since we are waiting I feel like in some ways we have had to put our life on hold. I'm waiting to send in my nursing applications because I don't want to waste my time pulling all the needed information together if I'm not going to be here. We haven't signed Jon Kent and Zoey up for tee ball because we don't know if we will be here or not. I would really like to finish decorating the boys' room and Zoey's room but if we aren't going to be here, there is no point in that. I just wish we knew one way or another. That way if we are moving then I can start that process (getting boxes, searching for a new house, find a moving company, etc.) if we aren't moving I can finish decorating, buy some storage bins for various clothes and rooms, etc. I just would like to know already.

Not Me! Monday

This late Not Me! Monday was brought to you by MckMama.

V-day in O'ville

Kent had to work today, so we did our Valentine's celebrating yesterday.

We got the kids their V-day presents... SKATES! They loved them. Nathan got a little lawnmower thingy. He doesn't really like it too much, but will play with it if one of the other kids is playing with it. Figures.
As you saw from the last entry, Kent cooked all the kids, even Nathan, a heart spaped pancake. We then went outside and played and let the kids ride around on their skates. Once falling a few times, they were done. LOL.

Then Zoey and I had a girls day out.. our first(at least our first planned one). We went shopping for the rest of Kent's Valentine's Day present and just shopped around. Then we went to Chik-fil-A and had lunch and then she played on the playground for a bit. When we left I grabbed a milkshake for us to split. We had a really good time together. I plan to do that sort of then more often with her. I feel like sometimes she is over looked being the middle child and all.

Later that evening my parents kept the kids for us so we could go out to eat. We exchanged gifts in the car. I got him a new XBOX and I gave him a book that I made on Shutterfly.com that had our pictures in it with little captions. It turned out cute. Anyway, he gave me a gift certificate to a local spa for a manicure and pedicure. We then were on our way to eat. We ate at Fuji's which is a Japanese restaurant where they cook the food right in front of you. It was yummy.

We ended our night with the kids in bed and Kent playing his new XBOX game and me studying. Pretty romantic, no?

It was a great day.

I didn't eat it!

One of the kids dropped a blue M&M. Look who found it.

One more reason

I love my husband because he makes heart shaped pancakes for our children...
