The 'Real' Easter

My kids know about the "Easter Bunny". They know about egg hunting and chocolate bunnies. The know how to dye eggs. What they are learning is about the real reason we celebrate Easter. Jon Kent is very good about remembering and understanding, especially at his age. Jon Kent and Zoey both will out of the blue recall a Bible story they have heard. And usually all the details are right. So I have been talking with the kids about the real reason we celebrate Easter. We celebrate it because Jesus died on the cross for my sins, their sins, every one's sins. Tonight, just to see if they still knew, I asked them why we celebrate Easter. And without missing a beat Jon Kent told me it was because Jesus died on the cross. I asked him why and he said so we could go to heaven. To say I was proud would be an understatement. And it's not one of those, look what my kid knows, type proud. But just that he is getting it.. that the foundation is being laid. So with that, Happy Easter to everyone. I pray you each know the real meaning of Easter. If not, keeping reading.

Matthew 28
1. The Resurrection
1After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb.
2There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. 3His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. 4The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men.
5The angel said to the women, "Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. 6He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. 7Then go quickly and tell his disciples: 'He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.' Now I have told you."
8So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples. 9Suddenly Jesus met them. "Greetings," he said. They came to him, clasped his feet and worshiped him. 10Then Jesus said to them, "Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see me."
The Guards' Report
11While the women were on their way, some of the guards went into the city and reported to the chief priests everything that had happened. 12When the chief priests had met with the elders and devised a plan, they gave the soldiers a large sum of money, 13telling them, "You are to say, 'His disciples came during the night and stole him away while we were asleep.' 14If this report gets to the governor, we will satisfy him and keep you out of trouble." 15So the soldiers took the money and did as they were instructed. And this story has been widely circulated among the Jews to this very day.
The Great Commission
16Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in[a] the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

Egg Happenings

Here is what we did today:
At Kent's work's egg hunt.
At home dying eggs.
After dying eggs we went to my parents' house and had supper. It was very good. The kids played and the adults talked. Then we came home and got the kids in bed. Kent is watching a fight, I have painted my fingers and toes (because you really wanted to know), I've ironed Jon Kent's shirt for tomorrow and now it's time for bed. Pretty informative post, no?

This and That with Pictures

Not a whole lot to talk about. A lot of behind the scenes stuff is happening.. with the move and all. But nothing that is interesting or earth shattering. We had a date to go house hunting the 17th-23rd of May, but Kent's little brother's high school graduation is the 19th so we are going to put it off to the very end of May or first of June. Everything else is going very slowly. I'm sure it will start to snowball before we know it and our heads will be spinning.

The kids had a game last night. I left class early so I could actually seem them play more than a minute. I took a few pictures. As you can see...

Today we had some storms come through that had tornadoes in them. Just another day in Alabama. We just had a bad thunderstorm that gave us some hail. Biggest I've ever seen. I tried to take some pictures of it, but I'm not sure how clear they are. The size of the hail was about 2 inches or so.

Tomorrow we have a Easter egghunt to attend at Kent's work. Hopefully the kids will have a good time and I'll get some good pictures of them. Have a good weekend everyone.

The stool

***Edited to add a picture***

Everyday in some small way I try to talk to the kids about us moving. Like what color do they want their rooms. Or what kind of house do they want. I usually get the usual responses of, "I want a house just like ours. I want stars in my sky, just like now. I want my room to be pink/blue." Today Zoey was a bit sad looking and I asked her what was wrong.

Zoey: Will there be toys there?
Me: Yes. We're going to take all your toys with us. Your bed and clothes too.
Zoey: Oh! Thanks, Mommy!
Me: No problem. I do what I can.
Zoey: Can the stove go too?
Me: Well that depends. If the new house has a better one we'll leave ours here.
Zoey: What about the stool?
Me: What stool?
Zoey: Our time-out stool. It has to go or I won't have no where to sit.

This is the stool. Zoey was almost 2 in the picture. The stool has been used well.

Yay and Grumble

I didn't really want to add another post today because it's the baby boy's birthday and it should be all about him. However, he is asleep so he won't know any better. I'll even throw in a picture of his first birthday (actually ON his birthday) candle.Now.. are we good?
Yes?
Good.

Moving on..

We got some more information today about the job transition. Kent will get the grade increase. He qualified for 3 different grades (GS-5,7 &9), but we didn't know which he would get. Each comes with a pay increase but the latter comes with the bigger pay increase and that is what he got. Yay!

Kent also got assigned his counselor who will be helping us get everything in order for the move. She will be able to answer the many, many, many questions we have. Yay!

She wasn't in the office today. Grumble.

But she will be there tomorrow. So hopefully Kent can touch base with her. Yay!

I've been searching through homes for sale. I enjoy it. I really do. But like I was telling my daddy.. right now it just seems like pretending. That it doesn't seem real because all I'm doing is looking. And even that is only through on-line. I can't fully see all the rooms or know exactly how everything be laid out. So, in some sense I feel like I'm wasting my time. Grumble.

Overall we are slowly.. slowly.. ever so slowly making progress. So.. yay?

Happy 1st Birthday, Nathan

Oh.My.Goodness. My baby is one today!! How the year has gone by. I just cannot believe it. It's so hard to believe that this time last year I was going in for my induction because little man was being stubborn and I was 5 days late. Over the last year Nathan has grown, developed and just has added so much to our family. At one year old this is what is going on with Nathan.

He weighs approximately 25 pounds. He was 8 pounds, 3 ounces at birth. 17 pounds he has put on in the last year.

He has 6 teeth.

He is a pro at the sippy.

He is still nursing 3-4 times a day.

He is walking 90% of the time.

He is able to stand from sitting without having to use something to pull himself up.

He can say, "Mama, Bubba, Baba, Book, De (Daddy), Papa, Hey, Bye, Baby".

He can eat most foods unless the texture bothers him.

He is in size 12-18 months clothes. Size 4 shoes and size 4 diapers.

Happy Birthday, Nathan!!!!

Nathan's Birth Story:

We got to the hospital at 5:30am on 4/7/08. They got me set up to the monitors and got all my paper work done. I was actually having contractions every 3-5 minutes. They were small ones but registering. The doctor comes in and checks me and I'm 2cm dilated. He goes ahead and breaks my water. Which took him forever to do because he said it was a really tough bag and it didn't want to break. No wonder my water never breaks on its own. The nurse then starts the pitocin around 7am. She asks if I want an epidural and I tell her no.. for now. So the contractions start and I'm handling them pretty well. Then the pressure starts and THAT of all things I couldn't handle. I just didn't like that feeling. At 9am she checks me and I'm at 3cm. At that point I just couldn't take the pressure and told her to go ahead and call the doctor for an epidural. He was able to immediately come in and do it. Whew. 10am rolls around and I'm checked again and I'm 4cm dilated. All was going well until Nathan's heart rate dropped and they couldn't find it. So they do an internal heart monitor that goes on the top of his head. It was showing that with each contraction his heart rate decreased greatly. So they had me flip to my left side. His heart rate then went back to normal for a little bit but still would dip some with contractions. From 10:30-11:30am they had me flipping from my left, to my right, sitting up, etc. Just trying to find a good position so that Nathan's heart rate wouldn't drop. Nothing was working and even a few times they couldn't get his heart rate at all. Scared the living mess out of me. They put me on oxygen and were telling me over and over and over to take deep breaths, to just take deep breaths. I was. But Nathan's heart rate was still all over. Finally at around 11:30am I told them that I was having a ton of painful pressure and felt like I needed to push (epidural wasn't very effective at this point because of all the flipping). So she checks me. I went from 5cm dilated at 11am to 10cm dilated by 11:30am. She calls the doctor and tells him that I'm ready to push, but he was in a csection. Again, at this point Nathan's heart rate was dropping and things were getting scary. Nurses were running around getting things ready and a student nurse was repeatedly telling me to take deep breaths and to take in as much oxygen as I could. The doctor calls back and tells us to go ahead and start pushing that he was on his way. This was around 12:15pm or so. So I pushed once just enough to move him down a bit and the pressure was so intense. At about 12:30pm the doctor was in and dressed and the pushing began. I pushed through 3 contractions and Nathan Tyler was born at 12:50pm sunny side up with the cord around his neck. As soon as they put him on my chest I knew he had to be one of my biggest. He weighed 8lbs, 3oz and was 20.5 inches longs. His apgars were 9 and 9. He had a slight breathing bump to get over. But nothing that required any oxygen or other medical assistance. He took right to nursing and he is still going strong with it. So far he is a good baby. He does like to be held, but what baby doesn't!?!? He is wonderful in every way. Jon Kent and Zoey love him. Jon Kent will talk about him and give him a kiss but he has better things to do. Now, Zoey she loves to kiss him over and over and over. She has to sit right next to me the whole time I have Nathan and everything is about him. We are still settling in and I'm sure we will continue to adjust for quite sometime. But so far so good.
