Happy 5th Brithday, Jon Kent

Dear Jon Kent,

Today is your 5th birthday. I don't know how we got here so quickly, but we did. You are an amazing 5 year old boy. You have a loving and caring heart. I pray you always will. You are my first born son. You made me a mommy and you made me realize that there was more to this world than just pleasing myself. Through you I learned to be selfless(albet, still learning). To slow down. To enjoy the moments of peace in the middle of chaos. Jon Kent, you will never know how much you have taught me in the 5 years you have been here. Nor will you ever realize how how much I love you. You have such a thirst to learn. I hope you always will. This is just the beginning. You have many years and many milestones ahead of you, God willing. You are an amazing little boy, Jon Kent, who I know will grow up to be an amazing man. Just keep living like you are, follow God and listen to your momma;). Everything else will fall right into place. Happy Birthday, Jon Kent!

Ask Mr. O'viller

My hunky hubby of almost 8 years has agreed to answer any questions you have for him. This is something I have never done, in all my years of journaling/blogging. So ask away!! Once some/many (?) of y'all have commented I will get started with a new blog entry with Kent's answers.

So ask away!

Fall Picnic

Today was the first day since Monday that it hasn't been raining. So we took advantage of it. I made the kids and myself a little picnic lunch and we headed over to the park. There is a playgroup of moms that show up there every other Thursday and then every other Friday. So they were there today. I've sort of made friends with one of the moms. Her son and Jon Kent are the only boys there, so they are always glad to see each other. Today when we got out of the car Zoey went running over and hugged one of the little girls that she has become friends with. It was really sweet and cute.
So anyway, we played there for a bit and once it got close to the kids' lunch time I found a grassy area and spread out the blanket for a picnic lunch. The kids were thrilled. We had a good time just sitting and eating. While we were eating some of the kids friends walked by to go down the walking trail. So after we got done we did the same.
While we were walking along trying and catch up to them, I just happened to look down and see a baby snake. I thought it was dead because it didn't move. So, I told the kids to come look. So they all come running over and about the time they got about a foot away the snake moves. I screamed. Imagine the girliest scream you can and that is about what I sounded like. Zoey screamed and the snake wiggled off. I did manage to snap a picture of it before it got too far away. I used the zoom.. obviously. We finally caught up with our friends and the kids played some more. It was a really great day for a picnic, even if our day was shared with a baby snake.

Do You Hear What I Hear . . .

Nathan played the part of little drummer boy wonderfully for me this morning.

So what if it was with the pots and pans. Tell me you don't think this little drummer boy isn't just the cutest.

I do believe our luck* has ran out.

*I don't believe in luck, but it made for a good title.

Jon Kent and Zoey each had their hardships or rather my hardships with them as babies and toddlers. But they seemed short lived. They do something wrong, I would correct them and then they would usually do well from there.

But... But... Nathan...

Oh. My. Goodness.

Stubborn doesn't even begin to describe him. Stubborn, hardheaded, strong willed... If he has something in his mind that he wants to do.. well by golly he is going to do it. There isn't anything you can do to change his mind. It's his way or no way. Period.

I blame myself.. partly. With Jon Kent and Zoey I was able to stay right on top of them. Correcting them pretty immediately. But with Nathan, there are just so many other things going on, that I find that I let him get away with a lot more than I did with the older two.

Have I also mentioned that Nathan doesn't sleep through the night? That he gets up at least twice a night?

Yeah.

I am determined though to get him sleeping through the night and to stay more on top of things with him. He needs to know that life has boundaries. That there is right and wrong.

Anyone know Super Nanny's number?

Yawn.

I love that little boy though. He is my baby of babies. When he is behaving it's wonderful. He did so well yesterday when I had so much going on while trying to get ready for our family that was coming. But then last night(or rather early thing morning) around 1:30am he woke up and wanted some "baba". And there was nothing that you could do to change his mind. Nothing. Nadda. Zip. It was either baba or scream for the next hour.

Did I fail to mention he woke the WHOLE house up with his screams at previously mentioned 1:30am.

Yeah, he did.

So, I did what any good, sleep deprived parent would do. I gave in and gave him his baba. I caved. I didn't stick to my guns.

Sigh.

Did I mentioned he is strong willed?

And that I am sleep deprived?

I need Super Nanny on speed dial to talk me through.

I love him, though. I truly do. Because if I didn't.. I wouldn't want better for him.

And I do.

And sleep. I would like some of that as well.

Family Visits

I'm in the middle of "fall cleaning". I am actually late doing it this year. But it's getting done. I put away all my Halloween decorations yesterday. Is it too early to want to bring out Christmas decorations?? Anyway, like I said.. I've been cleaning. So that's my excuse for not being around here. That and my Facebook. But I digress...

Kent's parents and grandparents are coming for a visit Friday and staying through the weekend. We are looking forward to their visit. It's been awhile since they have been here. They are coming for Jon Kent's last soccer game and also to shower him with birthday gifts. His birthday isn't until the 15th, but he will get to be spoiled by them a week early.

Speaking of birthdays.. Jon Kent will be 5 (!!!!!) in 11 days. FIVE! How in the world that happened I will never know. Just doesn't seem real. He'll be starting school next year and I won't have him all day to myself. Then 17 days after Jon Kent's birthday will be Zoey's and she will be 4 (!!!!). Again, how did that happen?? They are just growing up entirely too quickly.

And lastly, how do y'all like it in here. I redecorated. I am pretty happy with it! Bridgett already noticed, but how about the rest of the 48 followers that I have. Used to be 49.... But I digress...
